SOUTH KOREA

The landscapes are so diverse in South Korea that each region feels completely different. We spent one month in the country and visited Seoul, Seoraksan National Park, Busan and Jeju Island.

Tips for Travelling in South Korea

Hiring a car in South Korea

We hired a car twice through Rentalcars.com on our trip—once to drive from Seoul to Seoraksan National Park, and another for our week on Jeju Island. The Rentalcars platform lets you compare cars and prices across the major rental companies.

Jeju Island was the only place we visited that was not possible to easily get around by public transport.

Mobile and data plans in South Korea

If you are looking for a data plan in South Korea, you can get 5% off Holafly’s South Korea eSim with this link or by using our code ‘LINGANDJACE’.

We use Holafly’s eSIMs on all of our international trips because they can be set up easily with a QR code. Many other SIM companies have a cap on the amount of data that you purchase, but all of the Holafly plans come with unlimited data.

Making payments in South Korea

Cash is accepted everywhere in South Korea so it definitely helps to carry some. You should be able to withdraw cash from any ATMs with no issue. We were able to withdraw up to X from the (bank name) using our Wise card that was loaded with (currency).

There are hidden fees in any international exchange rate, but we always travel with a Wise travel card which can be used all over the world, including in Korea. It operates like any other bank but is much cheaper than exchanging money through a traditional bank (depending on the exchange, it can be up to eight times cheaper). It has worked in every country that we’ve visited and saved us so much money in currency conversion fees over the years.
